Assessment of Nurses Midwives, Knowledge toward Labor Care Guide in Maternity Teaching Hospital in Holly Karbala City

Abstract

 


Background: Worldwide, more than 14 crore females have childbirth per year, and the percentage of deliveries by trained medical workers is rising gradually. Complications during labor and delivery cause maternal deaths (>1/3rd), stillbirths (1/2), and newborn deaths (1/4th). Monitoring of labor and childbirth, and early identification and treatment of complications are critical for preventing adverse birth outcomes. The objectives of the study were to evaluate nurses' midwives, knowledge toward labor care guide. Find out if there is a relationship between nurses' midwives, knowledge and socio-demographic


Methods: A descriptive design study was conducted to evaluate nurse midwives, knowledge toward labor care guide at maternity teaching hospital in Holly Karbala from the period of 1st December 2025 to 4 April 2026. The sample of the study was non-probability” purposive sample consisted of 50 nurse-midwives who work at emergency and delivery rooms


Results:


According to the current study's findings, 52% of participants were between the ages of 20 and 29, 70% were married, 30% had completed a midwifery high school, and 80% had one to five years of experience. Notably, 10% of participants had taken labor guide training courses, while 90% had not, indicating a low level of development in this area.


Conclusion: nurses-midwives have a low degree of knowledge regarding labor care guide.


Recommendations: Encouraging nurses and midwives to take part in continuing education activities like workshops, conferences, and training programs, as well as to review and update care related to the Labor Care Guide
